Auto Enable Dark Mode on Samsung Galaxy Android 15
What’s happening
After updating my Samsung Galaxy S24 to Android 15, I wanted Dark Mode to activate automatically in the evening to reduce eye strain. Initially, I was toggling it manually every night, which quickly became annoying. I checked the Samsung hub and discovered a built-in schedule feature.
Where I got stuck
At first, I tried using the quick toggle in the notification shade, but it only changes the theme temporarily. I also experimented with third-party automation apps, but they sometimes conflicted with system themes and caused occasional UI glitches.
How to auto-enable Dark Mode (step-by-step)
- Settings → Display → Dark mode
Toggle “Turn on as scheduled.” This took a moment to find because Android 15 groups related options differently. - Schedule type → Sunset to sunrise / Custom schedule
Choose your preferred schedule. I personally use “Sunset to sunrise” for automatic adaptation. - Settings → Display → Dark mode → Advanced
Confirm that “Dark mode for apps” is enabled so supported apps follow the theme. - Optional: Quick toggle test
Use the quick settings button to switch Dark Mode on/off and ensure the schedule overrides correctly.
What to avoid
- Don’t rely solely on third-party automation apps — they may conflict with the built-in schedule and cause visual glitches.
- Be aware that some older apps may not follow the Dark Mode schedule properly.
Device-specific notes
On Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 15, Dark Mode scheduling can slightly vary by model and regional firmware. For example, on S24 Ultra, some system apps follow the theme immediately, while third-party apps may require a restart. For more display customizations, check the Display & Customization hub.
Quick test
Set a short custom schedule (e.g., one hour from now) and observe if Dark Mode activates automatically. If it works, the scheduling feature is functioning correctly. For better performance during theme changes, see the Performance & System hub.
Extra details
Dark Mode reduces eye strain and can slightly improve battery life on AMOLED screens. Android 15 improved theme consistency across system and supported apps, but testing your schedule for a couple of days ensures it behaves as expected.
