Enable Clean Energy Charging in the US and Canada

Clean Energy Charging is a feature in iOS 18 that helps reduce your carbon footprint by charging your iPhone using electricity from cleaner energy sources when available. It’s currently supported in the United States and Canada and works automatically once activated in your device settings.

Step 1: Open Battery Settings

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. This section controls how your iPhone manages energy consumption and charging behavior.

Step 2: Turn On Clean Energy Charging

Scroll down and enable Clean Energy Charging. Once active, your iPhone will monitor local power grid patterns and delay charging during hours of high carbon-emission electricity.

Step 3: Allow Location Access

Clean Energy Charging depends on regional grid data, so make sure your iPhone can determine your approximate location. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and toggle ON System Customization and Location-Based Charging.

Step 4: Keep Optimized Charging Enabled

To balance sustainability with battery health, keep Optimized Battery Charging enabled. It complements Clean Energy Charging by limiting charge levels until needed. You can learn more about it in our related guide: Optimize Battery Charging on iOS 18 Automatically.

Step 5: Monitor Charging Status

When Clean Energy Charging is active, you’ll see a message like “Clean Energy Charging Available in Your Area” on your Lock Screen or under Settings > Battery. You can override it anytime by tapping Charge Now if you need faster charging.

Step 6: Fix Unusual Battery Drain

If you notice unexpected power loss after enabling this feature, it’s likely due to background grid data updates. This is temporary, but you can troubleshoot it with the steps in our guide: Fix Fast Battery Drain on iPhone After iOS 18 Update.

AvNexo Tip

Plug in your iPhone overnight in a well-ventilated space — Clean Energy Charging works best when your device remains connected for several hours. This feature automatically adjusts based on local grid data, making it both eco-friendly and battery-safe for long-term use.
