Use Siri Shortcuts to Automatically Send Location in North America

Need to let friends or family know where you are automatically? With Siri Shortcuts in iOS 18, you can set up your iPhone to share your location automatically with selected contacts in North America. This guide explains how to configure and automate location sharing safely and efficiently.

Step 1: Open the Shortcuts App

Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Tap the + icon in the top-right corner to create a new shortcut. Choose Add Action to start building your automated workflow.

Step 2: Add “Get Current Location” Action

In the action search bar, type Location and select Get Current Location. This step allows your iPhone to capture your real-time coordinates whenever the shortcut runs.

Step 3: Add “Send Message” or “Share” Action

Next, tap the + button again, search for Send Message, and select it. In the message field, tap the variable icon and choose Current Location. Enter the recipient’s name or phone number to automatically send your location via iMessage or SMS.

Step 4: Automate the Shortcut

Tap the Automation tab in the bottom bar, then select Create Personal Automation. Choose a trigger such as Time of Day, Arrive, or Leave a specific location. For example, you can have Siri automatically send your location when you leave work or arrive home.

Step 5: Disable “Ask Before Running”

To make the shortcut run automatically, turn off Ask Before Running and confirm by tapping Don’t Ask. This ensures your iPhone sends the location automatically without asking for manual approval each time.

Step 6: Test and Manage Privacy

Run the shortcut manually once to ensure it works correctly. To review and manage privacy settings, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and verify that Shortcuts has access to your location. For more tips on location safety, visit Security & Privacy.

For additional automation guides and iPhone how-tos, explore the iPhone Hub.

AvNexo Tip

Combine your location shortcut with other actions like sending an ETA, turning on Low Power Mode, or posting a status update. Siri Shortcuts can handle multiple actions in sequence — perfect for frequent travelers or daily commuters in North America.
