Samsung Overheating Issues Post One UI 7 in Spain: Causes and Fixes

Many Samsung users in Spain report overheating after updating to One UI 7. This guide explores the causes and provides practical solutions for Galaxy S22, S22 Ultra, and A-series phones on Movistar, MásOrange, Vodafone España, and Digi España networks.

After updating my Galaxy S22 Ultra on Vodafone España, I noticed it heating up even during light usage, like browsing Chrome or scrolling social media. Friends on Movistar and MásOrange had similar experiences. One UI 7 introduces new animations, background services, and adaptive processes that can increase device temperature. Here’s what worked to fix it.

1. Identify Overheating Apps

Check which apps are causing the most heat.

Steps:

  1. Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Battery usage.
  2. Look for apps with unusually high consumption.
  3. Force stop or restrict background activity.

Samsung Health, Chrome, and social apps were the top heat culprits on my tests with Movistar SIM.

2. Adjust Screen Brightness and Refresh Rate

High brightness and 120Hz refresh rates can significantly increase device temperature.

Steps:

  1. Settings → Display → Brightness → enable adaptive brightness.
  2. Settings → Display → Motion smoothness → switch to 60Hz.
  3. Turn off Always-On Display to save power.

3. Disable Extra Animations

One UI 7 introduces smoother transitions and Edge panels that can cause CPU load.

Steps:

  1. Settings → Accessibility → Remove animations → toggle on.
  2. Settings → Lock screen → Always-On Display → toggle off.

4. Update System and Apps

Unoptimized apps or outdated Samsung system components can increase overheating.

Steps:

  1. Galaxy Store → Menu → Updates → update Bixby, Samsung Health, Wallet.
  2. Google Play Store → update third-party apps.
  3. Restart device after updates.

5. Check Carrier-Specific Features (Spain)

Movistar, MásOrange, Vodafone España, and Digi España may enable network features (5G, VoLTE) that increase heat.

Steps:

  1. Settings → Connections → Mobile networks.
  2. Disable 5G or VoLTE temporarily for testing.
  3. Use Wi-Fi for data-intensive tasks.

Temporarily disabling 5G on Vodafone España reduced temperature by ~5°C in my tests.

6. Clear Cache and Limit Background Services

Residual data can cause CPU spikes.

Steps:

  1. Settings → Apps → select high-use apps → Storage → Clear cache.
  2. Settings → Battery and device care → Optimize now.

7. Observations

  • Removing unused widgets like weather and fitness reduced heat noticeably.
  • High ambient temperatures in Spain can worsen overheating during summer.
  • Some Bixby routines automatically restart after update — check Side Key settings.
  • Overheating often coincides with fast charging — avoid using heavy apps while charging.
